Our Story
The Albany Confessing Clergy is a group of pastors and other staff members in Presbyterian churches (PCUSA) in the Albany, NY, area who have covenanted together to address major issues that confront the church, society, and the world in the areas of justice, peacemaking, environmental protection, human rights, and political activism.
Concerned that the PCUSA in particular and Christian churches in general have often neglected social concerns because of fears that denominations and regional bodies may divide over controversial issues, we have decided that now is the right time to speak out boldly on major issues that confront the church and the world. It is our plan to use the Albany Confession 2008 as the theological basis to challenge the church to a new witness and social outreach in the name of Jesus Christ in this dangerous and challenging time.
The steering committee is made up of those who formed the charter group, but we invite other Christians to add their names and voices to the growing number of believers who want to join us as we address new issues in the months and years ahead.
